Radio Springs Hotel

High Street, Lyonville, Victoria

This is a wonderul thing, a pub that has been reborn. It was closed for many years and now it's a pub once again. It has been lovingly restored and includes accommodation along with good food and an excellent selection of libations. Tap beer includes James Squires Amber Ale, Coopers pale, Guinness, Boags draught, and - this is indeed special - Holgate ale on the pump, not gassed, served at cellar temperature. The people who run the pub have taken the very brave step of excluding CUB products, and the drinking selection is much improved because of it. The wine selection is good, of mostly local produce. There is also a handy choice of whiskeys. This is a small pub, cozy in winter and with a lovely veranda for sitting outside when the weather is good. The people running the Radio Springs (also known as the Lyonville pub) are very friendly and the locals are welcoming. This pub is a labour of love the owners. There are no pool tables or TV sets, just lots of warmth and comfort. We love this place.
Highly recommended.

  1. A group of us had lunch here on Sunday - and it was fantastic. We had the back room to ourselves, complete with open fire, overstuffed old leather couches, lamps and books everywhere. It was cosy and atmospheric. The waiter was incredibly friendly and loved working there. Though the food took a little while to come out, it didn't matter as we were enjoying ourselves so much. When it did come out, it was beautiful!

The guiness drinkers amoung us raved about it's quality.

Perfect way to spend a freezing Sunday afternoon. Loved it!

  2. In a couple of words - don't bother! Let me explain. We heard a lot about this place, and went the other night. We walked in, heard this great little band and thought "this is it." From there it was all downhill. The barman was slow, and it was painfully frustrating getting drinks or any service from him whatsoever. The wait staff - the couple that were there - stuffed one of our orders up, and trying to get their attention was not a happening thing. The food was really good, but no use having good food with poor service. It wasn't a busy night by any stretch of the imgaination - only 5 other people in the restaurant, and 2 in the bar. We were pretty peeved. We won't be going back, and we'd be telling our friends to try elsewhere - there's heaps in Kyneton.

  4. I just LOVE this place!
Soft lighting, live acoustic music, a barman who remembers your name and what you like to drink and cosy open fires. It's like bigger, friendlier, quirkier version of my lounge room where you get spoilt by the awesome food & staff.

Check out thai night on wednesdays and my fav- Veal Vino Bianco, Dom the chef always makes it so good!

  5. I have been a very tardy blogger. Thanks to everyone for their comments; just because I haven't been in, doesn't mean I don't care.
I feel I must respond to Juliette's comments about the Radio Springs. I feel her criticisms are a bit harsh. It's true that you might have to wait a bit for your drinks or meals, but Ken and his crew more than make up for any slowness with their kindness and the comfort of their pub. This is a place to come and relax. Chill out, take it easy, don't stress. Try to get into the rhythm of the place.
